In Loving Memory of my Mum, Joan Annette Prescott (nee Dines) who passed away on Sunday, 2nd November, 2003.

Mum2.jpg (11312 bytes)Joan Annette Prescott was born in Toowoomba on 11th August, 1920. When mum was 5 years old, her father died and 6 months later lost her young brother. She moved to Clifton with her mother and in 1931, her mother married James Darcy and the following year mum’s stepbrother Leslie was born..

After completing her school years, Mum needed a job and moved to Brisbane and stayed with an Aunt while working in the City. During the war, mum worked in the munitions factory and on the 5th January, 1946, gave up work married our dad, Geoffrey Prescott.

As her three children became more independent, Mum decided to go back to work and got a position at the Golden Circle Cannery. At this time she also got her drivers licence and somehow talked Dad into buying her a car. The job at the Cannery came to end when she developed dermatitis from handling the pineapples. She then got a position at a fruit shop at Woolloongabba and stayed there until the shop was demolished to make way for further development. Mum then took up party plan, selling Hollywood Dinner Ware and for some years joined the family in delivering leaflets.

Mum had played tennis in her younger years, but at the age of 60 Mum took up Ten Pin Bowling and enjoyed this past-time for about 10 years until osteoporosis finally stopped her from bowling. Eventually having 2 hips and a knee replacement but was never able to go back to bowling.

Mum loved football, and many a Sunday mum and Jen would go off to QE2 stadium to cheer on her beloved Broncos.

Her passing on Sunday at the age of 83 has left behind three loving children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
